H.P. Lovecraft - The Unnamable

Just finished watching The Unnamable, based on a short story by H.P. Lovecraft, first published in Weird Tales, July 1925 issue. The movie is a classic monster-in-an-old-house movie, with the monster making its full appearance only at the end. The movie frightens with shadows, light, music and assorted noises -- the trappings of a classic horror movie. There is atmosphere, silly characters and a few bodies piling up before the monster is taken away.

Not bad.

Dave Gibbons on the Watchmen

Updated: March 15, 2009
Stupid parents and religious nut jobs are offended by the movie. The naked blue guy with his penis dangling throughout the movie; the violence; the sex scene between superheroes; and the rape scene; it's all getting the religious right in a frenzy. Parents taking their kids to the movie are horrified. No fucking kidding people. It's a rated-R movie. It means it is suitable for adults. You take your kids at your own risk. The least you could have done was research before taking your kids to see the film.

Later, in his hotel room, he receives an SMS message on the new phone, advising him to take advantage of a hotel special, and stay another day in Bangkok. After a short deliberation he decides to delay his flight home to the US, and stay one more day. The following morning Max awakes to find the flight he canceled horrifically exploded in mid-air, killing all passengers aboard. Looks silly.
